Book and Movie of the Year 2015

Every year, I read many, many books and watch many movies throughout the year. Some of those are almost immediately forgotten, others stand out more, and then there are the ones that lodge themselves into your heart and mind and emotions and you never forget them.

That’s what this Book and Movie of the Year is about; this is a book and a movie that messed with my emotions and became favorites almost immediately. At the end of each year, starting this year, I will select one book and one movie that I think were the absolute best that I read or watched from the year before.

And so, I present to you: The 2015 Book and Movie of the Year!

Movie of the Year: Cinderella (2015)

Runner-up: Inside Out (2015)

Cinderella is probably one of my all-time favorite movies now. I saw it in theaters and again in October, and I could watch it over and over and over. They took the classic story and gave it some perfect actors and a screenplay that deepened it without ruining it. The costumes and sets were stunning and it is easily one of the most beautiful movies I have ever watched.

The runner-up, Inside Out, was a cute and fun animated movie that had deeper meaning to it as well. It made me cry, not an easy stunt for an animated film, and it is very, very clever and well-done. Everyone will be able to find something that they like about Inside Out.

Book of the Year: That Hideous Strength by C.S. Lewis

that hideous strength

Runner-up: Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand

That Hideous Strength was one of those books that had a major emotional effect on me. When I finished it I felt like it took a few minutes for me to reenter the real world. It is, in my opinion, a masterpiece, a stunning conclusion to the amazing series that is the Space Trilogy.

The runner-up, Unbroken, is certainly an intense book and not easy to get through, but it is very inspiring and interesting even though it is nonfiction. The most wonderful part us at the end, when Louis becomes a Christian and his life changes.

So, what do you think? Do you agree with my choices? What would you say are the best books and movies you read or saw this year? Leave me a comment and tell me!

Unbroken has been on my TBR for quite some time now. I’ll have to just do it. I’m really more of a fiction person, so I’ve been procrastinating on that. But my best friend loves it too so I guess I’ll be reading it soon! I still haven’t seen either Cinderella or Inside Out, though I’d like to see both. And so far the only C.S. Lewis I’ve read is Narnia (twice) and most of The Screwtape Letters.

I highly recommend Unbroken!! Just because it’s a true story doesn’t make it any less of a story, so it might be more like fiction than you think 😉

I’ve never read Hideous Strength but I LOVE C.S LEWIS. I just received “Mere Christianity” for Christmas, and I’m loving it so far. Definitely going to check it out.
I’ll also check out Unbroken too! I liked Inside Out a lot, but I never did see Cinderella. I’ll have to do so ^^
    Merry Christmas!

If you love C.S. Lewis you HAVE to read the Space Trilogy (That Hideous Strength is the third). The first two are very well-written of course, but they are kind of deep and can be hard to get through. My favorite is definitely the last one, so even if the first two are hard to get through, it’s worth it!
And you absolutely have to see Cinderella. It’s amazing!
