It’s almost Thanksgiving! (And stores, please stop playing Christmas music before Thanksgiving. Please. For the sake of all of us who are so bothered by that.)
Last year, on my old blog, I did a Thanksgiving Challenge for the whole month of November, inspired by the book One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp. (If you haven’t read this book, you need to read it, and now is a great season to!) .
I didn’t do too well on that, so I didn’t want to repeat the month-long thing this year. It was a little much. But I did like the idea of it, so I’m going to do a similar challenge for the next week.
Here’s what you do:
- Set aside a journal, Word Document, note on your phone, or somewhere else where you can write things down.
- Every day, starting today and going through Wednesday of next week, write down 5 things or more that you are thankful for that day. No repeating anything.
- If you do this, by Thanksgiving you will have more than thirty-five things on the list.
- On Thanksgiving, sit down and take some time to pray through the whole list, thanking God for everything on it.
Don’t worry if you get behind or can’t finish all thirty-five things! Even writing some things down and praying about them on Thanksgiving will be worthwhile. You will find yourself more mindful of the good things and blessings in your life.
